As the Sensex weekly expiry approaches on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has imposed a trading ban on 8 stocks in the futures and options (F&O) segment. The ban was triggered as these securities breached 95% of the market-wide position limit (MWPL). While trading in F&O for these stocks is restricted, they remain available for trading in the cash market.

On January 20, 2025, shares of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail jumped by 3.10%, closing at ₹282.60. According to data from the BSE, the stock witnessed a total traded volume of 0.71 lakh shares, resulting in a turnover of ₹1.98 crore.
On January 20, 2025, Bandhan Bank’ share price surged 0.79%, closing at ₹152.35. According to BSE data, the stock recorded a total traded volume of 1.94 lakh shares, translating to a turnover of ₹2.94 crore.
On January 20, 2025, Can Fin Homes share price increased by 2.34% to close at ₹707.85. According to BSE data, the stock recorded a total traded volume of 0.62 lakh shares, with a turnover of ₹4.38 crore.
On January 20, 2025, Kalyan Jewellers India share price jumped by 5.88%, closing at ₹531.15. According to BSE data, the stock recorded a total traded volume of 26.11 lakh shares, resulting in a turnover of ₹140.29 crore.
On January 20, 2025, L&T Finance share price rose by 1.26%, closing at ₹144.60. BSE data revealed a total traded volume of 1.12 lakh shares, amounting to a turnover of ₹1.61 crore.

The Tuesday trading session is set to witness the weekly expiry of Sensex options contracts, a significant event for traders. Additionally, several prominent companies, including ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, Tata Technologies, Dalmia Bharat, Aditya Birla Real Estate, Cyient DLM, India Cements, IndiaMART InterMESH, Indoco Remedies, Jana Small Finance Bank, KEI Industries, PNB Housing Finance, South Indian Bank, Tanla Platforms, and UCO Bank, are scheduled to announce their quarterly earnings on January 21.
The weekly expiry of Sensex options contracts takes place every Tuesday, with the preceding trading day designated as the expiry if Tuesday is a trading holiday.
Contracts are settled at the normal market closing time on the expiry day or later, as determined by the exchange.
If the last Tuesday of the expiry period is a trading holiday, the expiry for individual securities shifts to the previous trading day.
Interestingly, in the MarketWatch display, the expiry date for last week’s contracts is not shown, as these are treated as monthly contracts. Instead, only the month’s name and the strike price are displayed.
