The Ministry of Women and Child Development has recently rolled out the SHe-Box portal, a dedicated online platform to strengthen the implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (SH Act). This initiative is designed to simplify how complaints are filed and tracked while ensuring transparency and confidentiality.

How It Works

The portal acts as a centralized hub for managing complaints of workplace harassment, connecting directly with Internal Committees (ICs) or Local Committees (LCs) at workplaces. Whether it’s a private company or a government office, every workplace is expected to register its IC on the portal, allowing employees to file complaints easily.

If an IC is not registered, the system notifies state and district nodal officers to step in and ensure its registration. This real-time tracking will help ensure that no complaint gets lost or delayed in bureaucratic red tape.

Filing a Complaint

The process is straightforward. An aggrieved woman can file a complaint by logging into the portal with basic details such as her name, work status, phone number, and email. Someone else can also file on her behalf, but they need to provide an undertaking along with the complainant’s details.

The portal will make sure of the complainant’s privacy, with only the Chairperson of the IC or LC able to access her identity. This feature helps maintain confidentiality, making the process less intimidating for women seeking justice.

Monitoring & Accountability

A dashboard system allows nodal officers at different levels, central, state, or district to monitor complaints in real-time, keeping track of cases filed, resolved, or pending. Importantly, the SH Act mandates that inquiries must be completed within 90 days. The portal also allows complainants to track their cases, to keep themselves updated on the developments.

All in all, the SHe-Box portal is a step toward creating safer workplaces. By combining confidentiality with technology-driven efficiency, it will help women to voice their concerns without hesitation while ensuring workplaces remain accountable.
