SJVN Ltd has announced that it has received a Letter of Intent from the Government of Mizoram for the allotment of the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project. This significant development marks SJVN’s first venture in the state of Mizoram and is set to be a major addition to its portfolio.

The Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project, with an impressive installed capacity of 2,400 MW, will be located across Darzo Nallah, a tributary of the Tuipui River. The project is expected to involve a substantial investment of ₹13,947.50 crore, including Interest During Construction (IDC) and financing costs, based on April 2023 price levels.

The project is designed as an On-stream Closed Loop Type pumped storage facility and will consist of eight units, each with a capacity of 300 MW. It is projected to generate an annual energy output of 4,993.20 Million Units (MU) with 95% plant availability. The energy required for pumping water to the upper reservoir is estimated to be 6,331.66 MU, also based on 95% plant availability.

The proposed timeline for the completion of the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project is 72 months. SJVN Ltd plans to sign a formal agreement with the Government of Mizoram within the next three months to officially initiate the project.

This development represents a significant step for SJVN Ltd as it expands its operational footprint into Mizoram, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing renewable energy infrastructure and contributing to the region’s power generation capacity.
