Tata Motors is set to strengthen its position in the SUV market with the introduction of its new mid-size SUV coupe, the Curvv, priced starting at ₹9.99 lakh. The Mumbai-based automaker, which unveiled the electric version of the Curvv in August, is entering a segment currently led by South Korean and Japanese brands.
The Curvv will compete with established models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle MD, Shailesh Chandra highlighted that the mid-size SUV segment accounts for approximately 16% of the total passenger vehicle market, translating to around 7 lakh units annually.
Chandra emphasised that to succeed in this competitive segment, Tata Motors needed a unique approach. The Curvv’s SUV coupe body style is designed to stand out, reflecting a global trend toward premium and luxury segments. Chandra is optimistic about the model’s performance, citing its advanced features and distinctive design.
Currently holding a 19% market share in the SUV sector, Tata Motors aims to further increase its presence. The company is targeting an expansion of its dealer network by 10-15% within the next year, with a focus on enhancing both sales and service touchpoints.
The Curvv will offer both petrol and diesel engine options, along with notable features such as the ATLAS architecture and Level 2 ADAS. This addition to Tata Motors’ SUV lineup, which includes the Punch, Nexon, Harrier, and Safari, is expected to bolster the company’s market position and appeal in the mid-size SUV category.
Tata Motors is a leading automobile manufacturer in the world. The company is a part of the illustrious multi-national conglomerate, the Tata Group. Tata Motors provides a comprehensive and diverse portfolio of cars, trucks, buses, defence vehicles and sports utility vehicles.
