Market Update: Sensex Rises as TCS, M&M and Other Stocks Among Top Nifty Losers

The BSE Sensex gained 140.75 points. TCS, M&M, ICICI Bank, Cipla, and Adani Enterprises saw losses, with TCS reporting a 1.1% drop in Q2 profit.

The BSE Sensex gained 140.75 points, or 0.17%, ending the day at 81,607.55. The NSE Nifty 50 also rose slightly by 16.50 points, or 0.07%, to finish at 24,998.45. The Bank Nifty and PSU Bank indices performed the best, closing 1% higher among sectors. Stocks in Financial Services, Auto, and Metals also saw gains. On the other hand, the IT, Pharma, FMCG, and Healthcare indices were the worst performers of the day, with losses of up to 2.01%.

  • Tata Consultancy Services Ltd’s share price opened at ₹4,143.00 and closed at ₹4,146.00. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reported a 1.1% drop in net profit for the second quarter ending in September, bringing it to ₹11,909 crore, falling short of market expectations. However, the company’s revenue for Q2 FY24 increased to ₹64,259 crore, as per its stock exchange filing.
  • Mahindra And Mahindra Ltd’s share price opened at ₹3,200.00 and closed at ₹3,136.80. 
  • ICICI Bank Ltd’s share price opened at ₹1,237.00 and closed at ₹1,223.30. 
  • Cipla Ltd’s share price opened at ₹1,602.10 and closed at ₹1,594.30. 
  • Adani Enterprises Ltd’s share price opened at ₹3,174.20 and closed at ₹3,129.95. It started the first round of its qualified institutional placement (QIP) on October 9, aiming to raise up to $500 million. The company also plans to launch another QIP in the coming months to raise additional funds.
