On Tuesday, the benchmark indices were trading flattish with the Sensex down around 277 points or 0.23% at 72,466, while the Nifty-50 was down around 96 points or 0.43% at 21,960. About 1,696 shares have advanced; 1,231 declined; and 122 are unchanged on the BSE.
Top gainers and losers on the BSE Sensex index:
The top Sensex gainers were Tata Steel Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd and Bajaj Finance Ltd while the top Sensex losers were Wipro Ltd, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd and Nestle India Ltd.
The indices in the broader markets were trading mixed, with the BSE Mid-cap index down 0.28% and the BSE Small-Cap Index up 0.04%, respectively. The top mid-cap gainers were Solar Industries Ltd and AU Small Finance Bank, while the top small-cap gainers were Rama Steel Tubes Ltd and IOL Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The BSE Metals Index was the top gaining among the sectorial indices and the BSE Information Technology Index was the top losing sector. The BSE Metals Index surged by 0.65%, up by Steel Authority of India Ltd and Jindal Steel Ltd while the BSE Information Technology Index is down by 1.05% led by Zensar Technologies Ltd and 63 Moons Technologies Ltd.
In the pre-opening session, these three stocks were trending: JTL Industries Ltd, Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd and Piramal Pharma Ltd.
