Pure-play water technology player Va Tech WABAG informed the stock exchanges on Monday, May 13, 2024, that the company had received a repeat order of about USD 49 Million from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The company stated that the order is to design, build, and operate (DBO) three Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP) in Nepal, Kodku, Dhobighat, and Sallaghari. These plants will treat about 69 MLD of Waste Water and are anticipated to be completed in 24 months, followed by a 5-year operation and maintenance (O&M) period.
Va Tech WABAG’s proven experience with the client, associated with a technically superior bid, played a key role in securing this order win against global competition, further strengthening the company’s leadership in the South Asian region.
Upon completion, these plants will mitigate the inflow of untreated wastewater into the Manohara, Hanumante and Bagmati rivers, thus enhancing water quality and ecosystem health. As a component of this initiative, Green Fuel (Biogas) will be produced through Activated Sludge Treatment, generating renewable energy for the operation of the WWTPs. This will concurrently diminish Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and streamline operational costs.
Sharing his thoughts on this significant order win, the Regional Business Head of SAARC and South East Asia, Mr Arvind Dullu, said, “We are extremely happy to have been entrusted with this pivotal project. This repeat order is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, sustainability and the trust that the customer has placed in our technical and execution expertise, for which we are extremely thankful. This order further strengthens WABAG’s foothold in Nepal and the South Asian region.”
Earlier this month, May 2024, Va Tech WABAG won another significant order. The order was an AFD, BEI, and EU-funded consortium order from ONAS worth 114.22 Million Tunisian Dinars for a 36 MLD Wastewater Treatment Plant at Sousse Hamdoun II, Tunisia.
Va Tech WABAG Ltd is involved in the business of the water treatment field. The company’s primary activities include the design, installation, supply, construction and operational management of drinking water, industrial water treatment, desalination plants and wastewater treatment.
