Indian benchmark indices struggled to gain momentum today, oscillating between modest gains and losses, while broader indices significantly outperformed them. Notable gains were seen in the metals, oil & gas, energy, and real estate sectors, whereas the healthcare, information technology, and consumer durables sectors were among the top losers.
At 10:55 am, the BSE Sensex edged down by 0.02% reaching a level of 77,324. The Nifty 50 index edged up by 0.03% to the 23,522 level. On the Sensex, Reliance Industries, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Tata Steel were among the top gainers, whereas Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra and Power Grid Corporation of India were among the market draggers.

Shares of PNB Housing Finance Ltd experienced a significant rise in trading volume, over 19 times the usual, but faced selling pressure, resulting in a decline of more than 4% to an intraday low of Rs 800 per share on the BSE. The company provides various loans to retail customers, encompassing individual home loans, loan against property, non-resident property loans, and more.
Shares of Gujarat Natural Resources Ltd saw a 16-fold surge in trading volume, gaining around 4% to reach an intraday high of Rs 14.50 per share on the BSE. The company operates in the upstream oil and gas sector in India. The company, through its step-down subsidiary GNRL Oil & Gas Ltd (formerly Heramec Ltd), holds participating interests in six producing blocks in the Cambay basin. GNRL Oil & Gas Ltd also operates five of these blocks.
Shares of Bharat Wire Ropes Ltd experienced a nine-fold increase in trading volume and posted modest gains today. The company manufactures steel wire, wire ropes, strands, and slings, which are used in various applications including general engineering, aviation, fishing, elevators, cranes, material handling, onshore/offshore oil exploration, ports, shipping, and mining.
