Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is a leading media and entertainment company in India, established in 1992. It operates in a variety of sectors, including television broadcasting, digital media, film production, music, and live events.
On 24th December 2024, the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) imposed a fine of ₹2 crore on Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP along with a total penalty of ₹15 lakh on two chartered accountants (CAs) due to professional misconduct related to the audit of ZEEL for the financial years 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Additionally, the NFRA levied a fine of ₹8 lakh on two other CAs concerning the statutory audit of DB Realty and subsequently banned them from practice for five and three years, respectively.
In the case of ZEEL, the NFRA determined that the auditors overlooked multiple warning signs and failed to consider essential factors, such as the role of the promoters, the justification for the appropriation of fixed deposits, and transactions between ZEEL and its affiliated companies.
The NFRA discovered that ZEEL had improperly appropriated funds and conducted unauthorised transactions with associated parties, all without the approval of the audit committee, the board, or shareholders.
In response to the NFRA’s order, a spokesperson for Deloitte remarked, “We have received the order issued by the NFRA against the firm and two retired partners. We are currently reviewing the order to determine our next steps. We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of audit quality.”
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. share price of ₹124.90 was traded at 1:56 pm on NSE.
