History of Axis Bank

Having started its operations in 1994, Axis Bank is India’s one of the first new-generation private sector banks. In 1993, the bank was jointly promoted by Specified Undertaking of Unit Trust of India (SUUTI) (then known as Unit Trust of India), General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), The New India Assurance Company(NIA), National Insurance Company(NIC), United India Insurance Company (UIIC) and the Oriental Insurance Company (OIC). As of March 31, 2023, LIC and SUUTI are the promoters of the bank. Axis Bank launched its IPO in 1998, and it is listed on several benchmark indices like Nifty 500, Nifty 50, S&P BSE Sensex, etc. Axis Bank provides a wide range of financial services to different segments of customers, including Large and Mid-Corporates, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Retail and Agriculture Businesses. They have over 4,903 domestic branches and 15,953 ATMs and cash recyclers in India. The bank also has more than 8 international branches in Dubai and Singapore and representative offices in UAE, Dhaka, London, etc. The international offices concentrate on Coverage Business, Corporate Lending, Trade Finance, Investment Banking, Syndication, Private Banking, Wealth Management offerings and Liability Businesses. Axis Bank has been recognised with several awards, including the Issuer Investment Banker Award at the ASSOCHAM National Summit on Corporate Bond Market, Business Worlds India's Most Sustainable Companies 2023 for Banking and NBFC Sector, Domestic Retail Bank of the Year - India and Digital Transformation of the Year - India by ABF Retail Banking Awards - 2023 and many more.

  • Retail Banking: Under this category, end-to-end customer services are included, like savings accounts, insurance, loans, and investment options like fixed deposits, mutual funds, debit cards, credit cards, and more.

  • Axis Capital - They are one of the leading financial experts that offers solutions in investment banking and institutional equities. 
  • Axis Finance - This company provides retail and wholesale financing options to retail and corporate customers. It is a AAA-rated diversified Non-Banking Financial Corporation (NBFC). 
  • Axis Securities - This subsidiary of Axis Bank provides investment solutions. 
  • Axis Trustee Services - This company provides Debenture Trusteeship services and is SEBI registered. 
  • Axis Pension Fund Management - As the name suggests, this subsidiary of Axis Bank provides retirement solutions by managing their pension during the working period. 
  • A.Treds - This company is one of India's largest Trade Receivables electronic Discounting System (TReDS) platforms that offers collateral-free funds for MSMEs. 
  • Freecharge Payment Technologies - Freecharge is an online platform that provides financial solutions, such as lending, savings, investments, insurance and payments. 

Axis Bank Management Team

Amitabh Chaudhry, Managing Director and CEO Amitabh Chaudhry joined Axis Bank on January 1, 2019. He started his career in 1987 with Bank of America and worked at various established organisations, including Infosys BPO, Infosys Technologies and HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company Limited. He did his graduation from BITS, Pilani and post-graduation in Business Management from IIM, Ahmedabad. He is part of several committees, including the IT Strategy Committee, Risk Management Committee, the Customer Service Committee, the Special Committee for Monitoring of Large Value Frauds, Acquisitions, Divestments and Mergers Committee and more.
