About Telephone Cables

Promoted by the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation and the Brar family in the joint sector, Telephone Cables went public in Apr.'88. This issue of equity shares at par part-financed its project to manufacture 6.25 lac ckm of polyethylene insulated jelly-filled telecommunication (PIJFT) cables in technical collaboration with United Technologies, US (Essex Division). The company holds an industrial licence to manufacture upto 10 lac ckm of PIJFT cables. It came out with a rights issue in Jul.'89. The company has concluded a Technical Collaboration Agreement with Hitachi Cables Ltd., Japan for manufacture of optical fiber and optical fiber cables. Further, company has also signed MoU with the collaborater's to develop the possibilites of manufacturing sophisticated LAN cables, electronic cables and appliance wires. During 1998-99, the company has planned to diversify into the manufacture of Local Area Network (LAN), Harness Cables, Automotive Cables, for which necessary plans are being worked out. During the year 2000-2001 the installed capacity jelly filled cables has increased from 23 LCKM to 38.05 LCKM an increase of 65%.The company has also executed orders for 23.67 LCKM from October 1999 to till end of March 2001.Due to rapid growth in computer network systems the demand for LAN cables has increased and the company is now focusing on the same to develop such products.
