Birla Cellulose, part of the Aditya Birla Group and a major producer of cellulosic fibres through Grasim Industries, has partnered with Circ, a US-based company specialising in textile recycling, in a new long-term agreement.
This partnership aims to boost the use of recycled fibres in the textile industry. Under the agreement, Birla Cellulose will buy up to 5,000 tons of pulp each year from Circ’s first large-scale facility for the next 5 years. This pulp will be transformed into lyocell fibre, increasing the availability of recycled materials and supporting Circ’s expansion in commercial production.
Dr Aspi Patel, Chief Technology Officer of Grasim Industries Limited, said, “This partnership reflects our deep commitment to environmental stewardship and represents a crucial step in advancing innovation within the textile industry. By combining Circ’s cutting-edge recycling technology with our cellulosic fibres, we are significantly enhancing the potential for a truly circular economy.”
As both brands and consumers increasingly seek eco-friendly products, the supply chain’s role in meeting this demand is crucial. The partnership between Birla Cellulose and Circ highlights how collaboration can expand recycling efforts in the industry. With demand for recycled materials currently exceeding supply, Birla Cellulose’s decision to buy and use Circ’s pulp ensures that its customers will have access to quality recycled Circ Lyocell. This partnership also enables brands and supply chain partners to contribute to a more sustainable global fashion industry.
Both companies are dedicated to advancing circular economy practices and reducing environmental impact through innovative recycling and material reuse. They share a vision of a sustainable future and aim to set new standards within the textile sector.
