To meet growing demand, leading automaker Eicher Motors’ Royal Enfield has opened a manufacturing facility and flagship showroom in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The company is introducing a line of 350cc motorcycles in the nation. In collaboration with IFAD Motors, the Bangladesh foray will begin accepting motorcycle reservations on October 21.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Chief Commercial Officer at Royal Enfield, stated, “Our goal is to grow the middleweight motorcycle market internationally, and our entry into Bangladesh represents another significant milestone in this journey.” In addition to growing throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific, Royal Enfield launched a CKD operation in Nepal last year.
CCO Yadvinder Singh Guleria asserts that he is positive Bangladesh has space to expand its recreational motorcycle market. “We strive to enhance the customer experience, increase accessibility, and broaden the motorcycling lifestyle among the riding community in Bangladesh through localized production and assembly.”
The Royal Enfield factory in Bangladesh is the sixth assembly plant outside of India, following those in Nepal, Brazil, Thailand, Colombia, and Argentina. The auto industry in Bangladesh is among the biggest in South Asia, according to Eicher Motors, and the local facility will be able to assemble more than 30,000 units annually to meet the rising demand.
In order to draw in new customers, local partners IFAD Motors stated that they plan to grow the dealer network throughout Bangladesh in the upcoming years.
The oldest two-wheeler brand still in business is Royal Enfield, which started making motorcycles in England 123 years ago, primarily for military use. It established “Enfield India” in the 1950s in collaboration with the Indian business Madras Motors to assemble Bullet 350 motorcycles for the Indian army. Royal Enfield, whose UK production ceased in 1970, came to represent Indian motorcycling over the years.
In 2023, Royal Enfield’s sales reached a record high of over 9 lakh, and the company is currently owned 100% by the Indian conglomerate Eicher Motors. Royal Enfield is present in over 50 countries. The company opened its fifth assembly plant in Nepal in 2023, following locations in Brazil, Thailand, Colombia, and Argentina.
Eicher Motors Ltd.’s stock ended the day trading at Rs. 4,790.75 per share, which represents a minor correction from the previous trading session when the stock faltered and ended the day at Rs. 4,758.00.
